Church History

Personal Profile

Britwell Baptist Church is a member of the Baptist Union of Great Britain which has its headquarters in Didcot, Oxfordshire. The Union is made up of churches, regional associations, the national resource centre and colleges. It is a diverse union with large & small congregations, different nationalities and differing styles of worship yet united by core values and a common purpose of changing lives and transforming communities through the message & love of Jesus Christ. The union works in mission with others regionally, nationally and internationally.

We form part of the regional association called Southern Counties Baptist Association and are accountable to the respective regional ministers for various areas of ministry. More locally we partner with the East Berkshire Cluster Baptist churches for sharing of resources, ideas and celebratory events. Our church is represented at both cluster and association meetings.

A member of the Evangelical Alliance, Britwell Baptist Church is led by our minister, Pastor Gideon Reuben since April 2006, supported by the leadership team and coordinators of various ministries. The church has over 40 communicant members who prayerfully decide the affairs of the church. We have around 30 – 80 people in attendance every Sunday. The attendees are representative of various age groups, nationalities, professions and personalities.

At Church, we celebrate diversity and endeavor to find common ground between people groups. We agree with each other in matters of faith and submit to the authority of the leaders. We also covenant as members to protect the unity of the church, share in the responsibility of the church and serve and support the ministry of the church. We believe that God has united us to be a witness in our local community and endeavor to achieve this by living out our faith day by day and inviting friends and family to our church.

WHERE IT BEGAN

The church started in 1959 as a house fellowship in the house of Cliff Cotterrell & Alf Coodliff who were led by the Holy Spirit to open their house for group fellowship, which started the work of God for the formation of Britwell Baptist Church in the Britwell area of Slough.
